Citizens have come together across the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel responded by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"Our violent opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will no longer create a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the Egyptian city for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent delegate familiar with the talks said that an late session of negotiations started at evening in Egypt.

The representative said the day's discussions ended without tangible results, due to differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the first phase of the deal.

He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have still not deliver any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are making efforts to close the disparities between the two sides.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • Post-war administration of the territory

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - shared: "No place appears as home any longer and until every captive return not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can relax again. Then we can commence heal," she continued.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people gathered to express their support for the families of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do any agreement required for the abducted to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Research now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of the population prefer the war to conclude in return for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where local people reported the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In the main city, attacks were noted in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and locality areas and in the east side district of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the northwest.

"As the night falls, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, clinging, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Constantly we monitor the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had received the bodies of several people by the daytime, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern district.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of Khan Younis indicated two more fatalities had been delivered. A person was killed by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the southern area, health workers said.
