The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three victory in the series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, ranking him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it hurts" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
