The Division Is Coming to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG set within the franchise’s apocalyptic landscape. This initiative has been announced, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to launch in the spring of 2026.
"This project will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, tactical intensity, and iconic world-building to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to engage with The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products are set to feature a starter set, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in NYC, sending the United States into turmoil. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the city into a warzone. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the players enter the story.
Work on the RPG has been underway for about three years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader market, particularly in the United States. Manufacturing is slated to begin right after the campaign, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules reveals it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a fast-paced and tactical style. Players leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, usually from one to five d10s.
- Rather than adding results together, players choose a single “result die” from the group.
- This dice is then measured against a target difficulty.
- Achieving a natural 10 grants special effects, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Engagements Focus On Positioning and Awareness
Battles prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Elements like taking cover, elevation, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This system seems built to favor teamwork and smart positioning over raw numbers.
A Novel Health System
The way health is managed introduces a compelling narrative layer. Agents have a wound threshold; sustaining too much damage weakens their effectiveness by decreasing the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an operative collapses, but is not knocked out.
- They may still move and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Scenario
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a ready-to-play starting adventure called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players spearhead the hunt for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that Manhattan district. More specifics and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled closer to the Kickstarter start date.
