The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
