Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed program reaching its finale—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Know the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
